Ryan O'Carroll, 25, of Southampton died after being hit by a tree which fell on him as he set up camp at the Boardmasters surf festival

A young surfing enthusiast has died after a tree fell on top of him in a freak accident.

Ryan O'Carroll, 25, was erecting his hammock when the tree came crashing down.

Horrified witnesses said the entrepreneur was outside setting up camp when a tree fell on him in Tehidy Country Park in Cornwall.

Stephanee Leal O'Carroll, Ryan's wife, posted a video of Freya Ridings song Lost Without You on Facebook. Alongside it, she wrote: 'This song explains how I feel at this moment. Lost. Scared. Confused.

'I miss you baby so much.'

In a further tribute on her Instagram, she wrote: 'I've tried to write this down many times and every time it doesn't seem to say enough.

'The day I met you was the best day of my life. This whole thing has been surreal. I can't believe you won't be next to me anymore, we were inseparable. You changed my life, I became a better person because of you, you loved me unconditionally and you inspired me everyday. Ryan your time with us was incredible.

'You've left your mark baby you should be proud as we are of you. I'll miss you loads. I love you sneaky.'

Witness Natalie Jupp, 36, said his wife and brother were there when he died.
